Audit readiness is easy to postpone — until you understand what the score actually buys you.
Since 2019, FSSAI has required an annual third-party food safety audit from every food business meeting all three of: a Central licence, a kind of business of manufacturing, and a product in a notified high-risk category. Miss one and the mandate does not apply. Meet all three and it applies every financial year, whether or not anyone reminds you.
What most plants do not price in is the incentive attached. A business scoring 80% or above is not required to go through an FSSAI inspection for two years. That turns a recurring compliance cost into something with a measurable return.
The gap between 79 and 80 is two years of inspection exposure. Closing it is rarely complicated work — it is documentation, records discipline, trained supervisors and evidence that survives being looked at.

This scorecard measures fifteen things you already know about your own plant. It is genuinely useful, and if it comes back above 80 you should carry on without us.
What it cannot do is find the gaps you don't know about — and that is where audits are actually lost. A paid assessment is someone reading your real records: the monitoring log with three unexplained blanks, the corrective action closed without evidence, the supervisor certificate belonging to a person who left in 2023. Self-assessment cannot surface any of that, because you would have fixed it already if you had seen it.
